Citadel of the Autarch, 4th voulume of Gene Wolf’s Book of New Sun’s remarkable series has been given a facelift. Since its release as a cover in 1982, I have wanted to adjust the figure. This last remaining original has not been offered for sale so I could do some additional work. I had been happy with all other parts in the painting but the character, Severian, felt unresolved. I adjusted the flesh tones then added focus and drama to the lighting.
Forest Encounter is an 11″ x 14″ oil on canvas painting begun on location in a Florida park near a tidal stream. The initial purpose was to add an animal to the location later in the studio. I added the animal then, a figure , and then something for them to look at. This painting and a few others have been recently added to my website gallery at: www.paravia.com/DonMaitz
